1/17/12 SJT

Still unable to add to comments using my PC at the day job. Opened a position in SJT @ 20.25. For the hell of it.

66 comments:

  1. XCO and SJT...wow nice moves guys. looks like capitulation in those stocks.

TZOO sold off hard today. I love it. get that sucker down around $28 and it's good for a move to $34-$35. It's now in a series of higher lows just like OPEN.

  2. Heckman was on fast money saying all is good and some members gave a thumbs up based on Cramer liking it.

    bid 6.11 go Mark

My new computer won't work with TT using my only browser IE, when you open the site the up/dowm cursor freezes. I think goog does this on purpose, but there products I try other than g-mail always seem buggy to me.

  3. This is the reason why CREE can't get off the ground:

    Sales $268 $257 $219 $243 $269
    Gross Profits $131 $121 $91 $93 $98
    Gross Margins 48.88% 47.08% 41.55% 38.27% 36.43%
    (past 5 quarters data)

  4. That data spells COMPETITION. the market hates declining margins.

  7. CREE - Definitely, that's why I was suggesting going upstream to the capital equipment vendors b/c someone's building out capacity?

FTWR - Scares the heck outta me, wonder if it's got any chance of closing the gap down from $0.80? Not betting my money on it...!

  11. Mark- Here's a story for you. The spring snapped on our garage door assembly last week, and we Yelped a company near by. An older guy who owns his own business (I'm pretty sure he's a solo operator). He came out Friday- only to discover 'Oh, you have a Martin door- I don't carry those kinds of parts with me, I'll have to order the spring.' Not a problem. He returned Monday. He was expecting two 'set screws' anchoring the spring to the overhead rod, but couldn't find them at first. So he hammered the ---- out of the spring- to no avail. Then he looked closer, and decided there were set screws- but they were recessed and required Allen head wrenches- looked around his truck and couldn't find one- so he asked me if I had any. I came up with two or three- but they weren't the right size. 'No problem,' he said- went back to the truck and returned with a battery-operated rotary saw. 10 minutes later, it just wasn't happening- pretty tough bolts. I suggested he come back today with a set of Allen wrenches- he readily agreed. Showed up today with a set of fold-out Allen wrenches- tried a few and couldn't find the right one! Hey, maybe Martin uses a weird size, which forces customers to call Martin for repairs. Tried another set, and thankfully was able to remove the set screws. But the spring wasn't moving! So he hammered the ---- out of it again, and was finally able to slide it off after removing the end bracket. Slid on the new spring- only to find the bolt openings didn't align! I thought I was screwed for sure- but no! 'Ah, I'm just going to leave the end bracket as is,' mumbled something about 'I've got another way around this,' went back to the truck, and came back with a generic bracket! Which he proceeded to install near the center of the garage opening- OK, a little improvisation doesn't hurt. Took out the battery-operated screwdriver, and drove the ---- of the bolt- not happening! 'Man, that's a hard piece of wood there!' I replied that the home was built in 1960, so they probably used 'real' wood _). Back to the truck, returned with a drill. Finishing touches to the cables, then asked me to hit the opener- no go! I suggested he pull the emergency cable- still no go! At this point I was really feeling sorry for the guy- 'Wait, maybe it's the other direction.' The door starts moving up! In any case, he ended up charging us about 2/3 of the original quote, no doubt in part b/c I assisted during the entire 2 hour ordeal, and let's face it- we didn't exactly end up with a clean repair job.

But...now the door groans/thumps a little when it starts the upward climb. No doubt b/c hammering the ---- out of a spring attached by set screws to a hollow steel rod can't be good for the steel rod? Well, ---- it. Life is full of improvised/imperfect repair jobs, and I can live with this one.

  13. CREE/LEDS - Well, looks like there may be oversupply issues throughout the LED industry, and Congress overturned the incandescent bulb ban too, if I recall...:

    Jan 11, 2012

"Jan 11 (Reuters) - SemiLEDs Corp, a maker of LED chips and components, posted a narrower-than-expected quarterly loss, but said it expects a weak second quarter as oversupply continues to pressure margins.

A jump in supply of light-emitting diodes, mainly due to generous subsidies in China, has pressured pricing in recent times"

  14. 2nd - I had one of those fold-up garage doors which needed replacing, so I called Overhead Door Company and has them come out and install a fancy new insulated roll-up along with a one-piece boom Genie lead-screw type electric opener. It was a very nice door, no more problems whatsoever, I couldn't have been happier. ;)

  15. "NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The World Bank has revised downward its global growth forecast for 2012, acknowledging that the world is in a precarious position under threat of a Lehman-like crisis engulfing capital markets. "

Ouch, maybe I should load up on SDOW first thing in the morning...

    ReplyDelete
  16. did the world bank lower the growth forecast on account of the guy only charging 2/3 of the original quote that took twice as long?

    ReplyDelete
  17. FSG - This one looks kinda good too, assuming PM's aren't smacked down with the broad market.

What are the chances of that happening once again?

  27. Well, I was still on the old thread...Only thing of note was I did sell HEK AH yesterday @ 6.14 for quick $1K.

Interesting right now is the SPX is up 5 and ES is down 2.

  31. Folks, take a look at the aluminum price chart:

    http://www.kitcometals.com/charts/aluminum_historical_large.html#1year

To me, it looks like it broke out of the pattern of lower highs and lower lows and the new uptrend has begun. If you want to make sure, you can wait for the spot price to rise above $1. But watch it carefully, 'cause it can get there any day (it is currently at $0.977). And if the downtrend has indeed stopped, then NOW is the time to buy AA (which is just about to brake above its early December high). I already bought some June $8 calls on it. I would have also sold July $10 puts (which I am sure will expire), but I don't have cash to back up those puts...

2nd_ave -- you used to like AA at some point. Why not buy it now? Or sell puts on it and either pocket a nice premium or buy it at a large discount to the current price?

  32. Also, spot copper is just about to break out to the highest levels since October, and FCX broke out yesterday with a follow-up today.

  33. Looks like the triple top pattern on $USD is complete:

    http://www.forexpros.com/quotes/us-dollar-index-advanced-chart

Given the lowered global growth forecast by the World Bank, the markets are probably sniffing out more QE from the Fed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. TOF -- let's hope SORL ends the day at the current levels and then gaps up tomorrow to $2.6 and runs to $3 by the end of the day. THAT would make it difficult to board the Northbound for everyone...

  35. Folks, at which point would it be a good time to buy PNP.TO (PNPFF in US)? It is making higher lows since December 2008 (when all the resource stocks have bottomed), and recently made a higher low in December 2011 relative to its October 4 low. If it had options trading on it, I would buy some now...

    ReplyDelete
  36. David - SORL is gonna run really soon. I can just feel it. I don't have the ballz to have more than 10k shs though.

  42. Just saw this on Motley Fool:
"Did you know that HTC recently purchased a 51% stake in Beats LLC, makers of Beats that valued the company at $300 Million? The market cap alone of SKUL, the industry leader with a lot more product lines, is just over $300 Million. "

That's crazy...SKUL's market cap is $330 Million. Beats by Dre is valued just as much with one product line in the private market. SKUL needs to go private again!

  44. Wow CSTR just broke out of that downward triangle thing I talked about yesterday. Looks like that POS might be back in play. By the way, I was thinking about how they are planning on charging people only once at the time of the return on rentals of more than a day and I think it would be a good idea to calculate this because it could be a huge boost to their bottom line. If for example, they do 100 Million transactions a quarter and 1/4 of them are rentals for more than 1 day, at $0.20 (cost of transaction fees) that could equate to $5 Million per quarter or $20 Million per year. They have I think 30 Million shs and assuming a 35% tax rate that would be $0.40 EPS extra after tax per year. That could add another $6 per share to the stock.

    ReplyDelete
  45. CSTR...Wow, that is something for that sucker.

    ReplyDelete
  46. OMX = wow. Missed the boat on that one but the set up was obvious. trade the setup not what you think is the morale of that story.
