Hmmm....maybe someone needs to get out in nature and re-create? One mans chirps and warbles is another mans music of nature.
I go out every morning before the market opens with a cup of coffee and listen to the birds now that early spring is arriving. Tonight it was the spring frogs. It's definitely encouraging after a long cold winter.
It's the REAL clock of life. If it's noise to you, maybe it's time to get back in touch with reality. My bet is you are spending too much time listening to traffic and the neighbors fighting or f_cking. F_cking frogs is MUCH better.
There are advantages and disadvantages. Today after the close I went to bake some cookies and we were out of vanilla. So I pack the dog in the truck and set out the ten minute drive to the local dump of a store. FAKE vanilla! Crap. So I drive another five minutes to the next store and...FAKE vanilla. Crap. That means another ten miles into town. So off we go to Safeway in town. The good thing was the string of men coming out of Safeway with flowers for valentines day, so I got some groceries, some real vanilla and and orchid for my wife. There must have been a reason for imitation vanilla. On the good side? The drive into town is along the Sound and sometimes we can see Bald Eagles or Blue Herons or who knows what. The scenery is worth it.
Can someone explain why a site with 'tens of thousands of unique visitors' averages daily comments about 25% of the number generated by a site with 7 followers?
Are we referring to the sister site? Unique hits there is like counting all the phony HFT bids as real trading. Take that number and subtract the thousands of attempts to take down the site with service attacks, hacks, scams and black screens from all the people BC has pissed off over the years. The remainder would be about two posts X the 7 people left.
Didn't I read the other day (one unique visit) that his email was hacked and he lost a few days of mail and his address book? People love that guy.
I think Slezak and Ann had an major falling out, just guessing at how the conversation went but it's likely several years old. He probably demanded she agree to pull the plug, and she refused.
Did you happen to read Slezak's comments near the bottom of page 2 of the Chicago paper article I posted last night? The article is a couple years old, and he seemed kinda tense about the subject even then.
Actually, it's at the top of the third page, the entire article is interesting.
" Lurie's investment strategy converges two interests: her late husband's roots in engineering and her passion for health care.
Profit isn't a primary driver. Lurie's pouring of more than $200 million into mostly early-stage biomedical and technology companies is "a little bit altruistic," because sometimes, Slezak said, they do deals others shy from.
It has been risky, and new science can be fickle, Slezak said. There have been some wins -- in 2009, they sold Ithaca, N.Y.-based sensor-maker Kionix Inc. to a Japanese chip-making firm. There also have been losses. Northbrook-based diagnostic test-maker Nanosphere Inc., in which Lurie Investments is a major shareholder, reported losses last year of $35.4 million.
"There have been speed bumps," Slezak said, but enough success to keep them on the same path."
Still holding NSPH. Undeterred as a long term investment. Ann Lurie is quite a human being.
Not trading since last November. Just holding and watching.
January was a lost month with 13 days in the hospital. Complications from a fall (3 broken ribs and internal bleeding). Getting old is hell. Still in recovery mode.
Yeah, but I fainted getting up from chair too fast and full body weight fell back on sharp corner of computer desk. I toughed thru the pain for four days but that was a mistake because then the roof caved in due to bleeding. Should have called doctor next morning.
Fainting is not uncommon and is often attributed to a sudden drop in blood pressure. You wake up within a minute or so.
I've also experienced fainting spells a few times, mostly in my younger days. The last one I had was while rollerblading and rounding an inside turn. Was going pretty fast(flying around the rink) when it happened and woke up in the boards. I received some pretty funny looks from other skaters.
Am I the only one who finds this whole cruise ship thing totally unworthy of any attention? What a bunch of whiners. Hopefully I can hear from another 16 year old passenger how horrific the last few days have been.
I've done three cruises, Hawaii, Alaska, and bahamas in that order. The first two were great and the third was a three ring circus. i have no desire to cruise again, but the wife does.
It was your find man. You have to take the kudos for the chart. All I did was put it on my screen and wait.
Who knows. maybe Dave is right and it retraces all of the move as a gatekeeper, but it's working so far.
I have to give Dave credit too. Look at SPWR. Fricking amazing. The service took half the profits on the first loaf and is up 120% on the second half. Sitting is hard but it pays off.
Re cruising, I think CCL is worth watching here - down about 5% in the last couple of days. Let's get some more dirty pictures and whining passengers and see if we can get another 5%.

European Economic Weekly: Europe: it’s all about growth 18 minutes ago
We assess to what extent the cyclical downturn has damaged European economies. Our estimation of trend growth shows that the capacity of euro zone economies to grow has been irreversibly damaged.
According to the BMO quant guys, all sectors in Toronto are in uptrends except materials and within materials, most subsectors are trending higher except Gold and PM's. Within the Gold subsector, most stocks are in downtrends and the best shares (AEM, YRI, etc.) are breaking down out of their uptrends.
They say that this suggests not a bottom but more downside and Gold and PM stocks should still be avoided.
"PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust: Guidance raises questions, but we are still bullish 2/8/2013 9:58 PM
PMT reported Q4 EPS of $0.83, in line with estimates. Shares fell on concerns growth is slowing in its correspondent business. However, Q4 results were good, and we discount the conservative guideance
Guidance serves up big disappointment; We are skeptical Correspondent earnings remained robust in Q4 as PMT capitalized on strong lending volumes and persistent margin strength. Net gains increased to $66M ($1.12 p.s.) from $50M in Q3, on $10.0B of funded loans. Rate locks (IRLC) also rose to $10.4B from $8.5B, suggesting Q1’13 funding volumes remain robust. Margins were 0.94%, up from 0.91% in Q3, though witnessed some year-end pressure as rates backed up. Also, despite the Q4 strength, PMT guided to 2013 Correspondent volume of around $45B, versus expectations of about $60B at the high-end of estimates, including ours. This surprised the market. However, in our view, the guidance does not seem consistent with PMT’s platform growth and its broader volume intentions, including recent strategic actions taken by its manager. PMT had 140 correspondents, up from 117 in Q3, and intentions to expand its product menu, hardly signaling a slowdown. We are optimistic that PMT is simply being cautious and anticipate more aggressive volume guidance later in 2013. NPL earnings growth likely to continue in ‘13 NPLs should be a source of earnings growth, as PMT acquires new portfolios of discounted loans. FV gains increased to $38M ($0.64 p.s.) from $27M in Q3, as distressed home loans grew 9% to $1.2B. PMT acquired an additional $290M of UPB in Q4, which should contribute meaningfully in the future. PMT also agreed to purchase about $173M of UPB thus far in Q1’13, which will provide earnings lift in H2’13. PMT said the supply of distressed loans will likely grow as holders look to free up capital. This dynamic suggests that PMT will continue to generate attractive returns on its NPL investments between 16-23%."
