07/28/12 Didn't buy the bottom tick? Get a grip.

Re ICHKX: It closed today @ 26.26, which is my basis. Sure, I could have bought in lower Wednesday or Thursday, but I didn't. It just didn't occur to me to make that trade earlier in the week. But wait. Let's take a look at prices over the past 5 days: Jul 27, 2012 26.26 Jul 26, 2012 25.73 Jul 25, 2012 25.43 Jul 24, 2012 25.57 Jul 23, 2012 25.84 Jul 20, 2012 26.34 Now, let's zoom out to monthly lows for the past 5 months: Jul 2012 25.43 Jun 2012 26.23 May 2012 26.32 Apr 2012 29.18 Mar 2012 29.55 And monthly highs for the past 5 months: Jul 2012 27.57 Jun 2012 28.33 May 2012 30.28 Apr 2012 30.27 Mar 2012 31.25 Could I have bought in at a lower price? Sure, the bottom 'tick' would have been this Wednesday @ 25.43> about -3% lower. Could I have bought in much higher? ---- yes! Is there any reason for me to be upset? ---- no! My basis today more or less matches the lowest closes in both May and June- not too shabby! The highest monthly low was +12.5% higher (29.55 in March). And the highest monthly high (31.25, also recorded in March) was +19% higher!

  1. Helping me cope is a pint of Foster's.

  2. The last time I had Foster's was on the drive to the airport with our Rugby team for international matches in England and Whales. Crazy that I remember that.

  3. Last time I had Foster's was a few years ago in the large can (or two). Good stuff. Not much of a beer drinker anymore. Things change.

  5. Poking around looking for a website citing significant market events over the last few years. This is the best I've found so far.

What I find interesting is Fed announcement on 9/21/11 was followed by a SPY low on 10/4/2011.

Almost perfect. Certainly feels like there is enough momentum to break through this time.

  7. When the hell are the "networks" going to stop with all this programing nonsense? The mens RR has started and instead of showing it live NBCS is showing Badminton...DOH!!!

Thanks to Mark for getting to me lay off futures for a bit and concentrate on equity swing trades; nice profit on INFA as well as FB.

  8. NSPH - There's still an open gap from $2.64, so I'm pretty sure we can anticipate it will close. The followup question is what happens afterward?

Pretty strong rally off the $2 level, EMA's on weekly have crossed upward. Looks positive, based on this chart.

BVSN is a completely different story....

SQNM - Looking this chart over, it sure looks like $2.55 is a real possibility. OBV is really strong though, makes me think this one's a long term winner. My feeling is, the danger of not remaining long is an buyout attempt.
